Today I'm gonna be going through the
fastest way to outpace your competitors in this techno-age...
What we're actually talking about today is the TRUTH about branding your business and what it means for your chance of success.
So like I'm gonna break it down for you
here's the real truth...
Nobody buys a
Coke or Pepsi or whatever else soft drink out there because of the font, because the font colour or because of the packaging design.
You pick a product or service because of what it does for you.
With regards to soft drinks, you know you like the taste.
Everybody gets thirsty, and you like the taste.
Coke and Pepsi particularly, and the reason why I like talking about Coke and Pepsi is because they're so different.
They have marketed so effectively to
their audience over the past few years that you know whether you are a coke drinker or a Pepsi drinker.
So I am a coke drinker.
Because coke appealed to me back in the day.
They did all of those, you know the ... the naughty adverts .... and I never ever fancied any kind of extreme sports which is what Pepsi does.
So they marketed really really well!
They've brought out their personality in the advertising so that you know whether you are one of those two people.
It's got nothing to do with their red colour on the can.
It's got nothing to do with the fancy
It's got nothing to do with that blue on Pepsi.
It's to do with how those products make you feel when you see the marketing and then how you feel when you then drink it.
If you like it, you will keep drinking.
If you don't like it you will not go back.
Why is this important?
Because as a business owner we need to stand out.
We have got to be noticed.
We've got to be recognised.
There are businesses everywhere!
It's neverbeen easier to start a business, set up a business and market your product or service.
We have to stand out so that we can generate our loyal following and so that we can make money.
At the end of the day, if you have a business.
You must be doing the things that you need to do to make money.
Otherwise, it's not a business.
It's some kind of voluntary thing...
Or it's just a hobby...
Now, if you brand properly, it should reflect your product and service, that's a given...
But it should also reflect your personality.
Most importantly, it should enable your perfect customer to know that it's you!
Again going back to Coke-a-Cola and Pepsi.
In all honesty, I would never consider drinking a Pepsi if I was thirsty.
This is the crazy thing.
I actually prefer the taste of Pepsi!
But that's not what the marketing has done for me.
I align myself with the coke brand... and in truth... I don't drink either anymore.
Back in the day when I used to, before we found out how unhealthy both were...
I would automatically go for Coke because I saw myself as one of those coke people.
I never saw myself as a Pepsi person.
So you have to make sure that you are not branding based on what you think, you like and what you are drawn too...
You have got to be thinking about your customer.
Branding is not about I like the pinks, I like to the browns, I like the grays...
It's about what is your customer going
to identify with.
The other thing, if your product or service is rubbish then you are not going to keep those customers...
They're not going to keep going back to you!
They're not going to talk about you!
So unless you have a product or service that is generating money and consistently generating money...
If you're not getting really good testimonials and you're not getting a really good feedback.
A logo, a font and a colour scheme is the last thing on your mind!
So right now if you are running a business and you find yourself trapped in that 'I need a logo space' or 'I need a font' and you haven't yet got yourself a consistent income from your business, here's exactly what you need to do:
Number one: please stop going on to
Google Fonts, spending endless hours on Pinterest hunting for logo inspiration or scrolling through creative market for a
branding deal. Just stop. You are wasting
your time right now!
Step number two: think about all the questions that your customers have, the problems they have or dreams they have which fits with your product or service.
Step number three:start producing content like this which talks directly to them.
Now there is going to be tears, there is gonna be tantrums and there is absolutely gonna be terror coursing through your veins the first time you produce a piece of content.
Especially if you bite the bullet and go live on Facebook or Twitter or Periscope or wherever you are using.
Chances are you will do what I did.
And you will produce so much content but
never gets read, never gets viewed, never gets listened to and that's the best thing ever!
Because you are not going to be amazing straight off!
I was producing content and I had no idea how to sell.
I used to get lots of people reading it and nobody would take action!
Then I learnt how to sell, then people
started to take action.
And the first Facebook lives I did.
I wasn't confident.
I didn't know what I was saying.
know how to structure something so that it was beneficial to the people who were watching.
So I was just chatting away to myself and you probably will be too!
But that's how you build your confidence.
The best time to start is before you
have a huge audience.
If you have a really small audience, then you should be jumping for joy because it gives you the opportunity to practice at getting good at selling and marketing yourself, before you start selling and marketing yourself to the masses!
Chances are you will start to drip little sales through and every little sale will be a little confidence boost.
And every little like to your page or follower on Twitter, or a new subscriber on YouTube.
All of those are great little wins to show you that what you're doing is right.
That is the most important thing is.
That you are serving your customers.
Not creating a logo!
Because they don't know who you are!
They're not going to recognise it!
You're just going to be a sea of something random that they don't understand!
Only when people know you, like you and
trust you, do they then start attaching meaning to your logo or your brand.
Like it doesn't matter.
And just so you know, the whole colour psychology thing is fake psychology... it's just not true...
How we feel dictates the way that we interpret colours and everything else... but that's for another day!
Oh and ... spoiler alert ... it really doesn't matter what colours you use.
I have been pinks and really really girly branding for years and years.
Yet I still have a 50/50 split in therapy.
Genuinely, 50% guys and 50% girls.
Lets be honest, guys don't tend to be drawn to pinks.
Possibly because as a society we do blue for boys and pinks for girls and you could argue that subliminally girls tend to be more drawn to those pinky colours because we get forced-fed them from a very young age and guys don't.
The important thing is that it didn't affect my ability to serve both genders.
So I want you to understand colour psychology doesn't mean anything.
Also, it's the best thing in the world if you don't have very many customers right now or you don't have a very big audience.
Because it gives you an opportunity to
It gives you an opportunity to start being confident.
It gives you an opportunity to get good, before you then have to go live in front of thousands.

Genuinely you will not get good unless you start taking action and doing it.
Just in case you hadn't guessed or the whole thing, the step one, two and three is not geared up and to get you to find a great graphic designer... it is to help you make money!
Once you've got a consistent income.
Then you can hire someone who will help you pull out the personality behind your brand so that it perfectly aligns with your perfect customers okay?
And after so many wasted hours of branding and thinking that I needed to do the whole 'I needed a logo'... I mean I spent hundreds of pounds on lots of different graphic designers and all of those things and nothing was right.
Then in 2018, I found somebody who actually drove in deep to what the values behind my business and the 'me' behind my business.
What I wanted to achieve for my
Plus, Pulled out my personality and I never looked back.
And that isn't cheap!
Don't waste your time on Fiverr and on Pinterest and pretend like a mishmash stuff is what you need just because you feel like you need a brand.
I promise you ...
Until you start serving your customers, you won't understand the personality of your customers.
You won't understand who your perfect customer is.
Because you haven't had any!
