Like most female entrepreneurs I hated selling.
The thought of 'selling' my services brought me out in a rash (sometimes quite literally).
The thing is, if you don't sell then you don't make money, & if you don't make any money you can kiss your dreams goodbye...
The persuasive marketeers will try to convince you that you don't need to sell, you just need a good marketing campaign.
The interweb experts will tell you that you just need a great website, a fantastic funnel or to pay thousands for SEO (search engine optimisation).
The PR companies will swear blind that a good old fashioned press release will have customers coming to you in their droves.
& like me in the 'good old days' you'll nod your head enthusiastically, hand over thousands of pounds eagerly awaiting all those sales which will surely materialise.
Only to find your savings, loans and money hiding under the sofa very quickly disappearing...
Then you start to panic.
You're still doing everything in your power to make money without having to resort to drastic measures (aka selling).
The thought of defaulting on your mortgage is less painful than turning into one of those people who actually sell their goods/services.
I mean, as if you could.
Selling is like the dirty word of the whole online (& offline) business world.
Sales people are con artists - FACT.
Or so we've all been led to believe.
There was this one crazy red head who very quickly showed me that my perception of a sales person was so very, very wrong.
In fact, she even got a little brutal at one point, she asked me straight out these questions:
1. Do you believe your service can help people overcome stress, depression and anxiety?
2. What happens to those people if you don't help them?
3. Do you really want to help them?
Each of these three questions were like individual knife blades to my heart (& just in case your wondering I am absolutely grateful for each one).
It hit me, by not selling my service, I was allowing these people to slip further and further into mental health oblivion...
I didn't have to force people into buying a service they didn't want or need.
That isn't what selling is about.
Selling is about helping the people you want to serve by showing them you can.
Selling is about ensuing the people you can help know that you are there.
Selling is about showing people you are the one who has their back and will help them with their problem.
The problem that they WANT to fix.
