Are you ready for another scorching weekend?
Probably not if you decided to open today's blog post...
Before I delve into what you can do when you wake up & feel like the world is imploding I want you to know that it's OK to feel like that.
I want you to know that we all have those days.
In fact, quite often those days end up becoming 'those weeks' and this too is OK.
You don't need to get worried until this spills over into months or when you feel a non-stop relentless lack of enthusiasm for life.
In all honesty, a few weeks ago, quite out of the blue I felt like I'd fallen into an emotionless black hole.
It came out of nowhere.
It was completely unexpected.
For a while, after waking up, I just lay there thinking - what on earth have I got to be so glum about?
I tried to think those good old 'positive thoughts' I keep talking about but it was like catching air in a sieve.
After 10 minutes or so I had a choice to make; would I continue feeling this way and go throughout the day with a random chip on my shoulder or was there something I could do to help get out of my funk?
I'm not going to lie, the thought of just rolling over, going back to sleep and ignoring the world for the whole day absolutely crossed my mind.
But then I'd miss out on the possibilities for laughter, banter and to help someone feel good about themselves.
I chose to get up.
Don't get me wrong at this point, I was still dragging my feet.
I lumbered down the stairs, picked up the dogs leads and stepped out into the fresh (& surprisingly warm) air at 5:30 am.
10 minutes into my walk everything had changed.
I was feeling lighter, more energised and optimistic about the days events.
It happened that quickly.
It always happens that quickly when you do it the right way round.
Most guru's, coaches and overnight experts peddle so much rubbish about thinking your way out of a funk.
Your brain & body quite simply don't work that way.
The only way to positively affect your mood is by first producing the hormones your body & brain need.
& the only way to get your biology doing what it's supposed to is to simply move your body.
Once your body has gone onto autopilot your brain will catch up.
Don't get me wrong, you absolutely can do it the other way round but it's an awful lot harder!
& I'm all about the easy life.
With that in mind, the answer to the question; 'what do you do when you wake up & feel like the world is imploding?', is quite simply, to move.
Go for a walk, wiggle around in your bedroom or blast the music out of your MP3 player and dance until you feel yourself change.
You may have to pull yourself from your bed, cajole yourself into getting dressed and bribe yourself with the thought of a freshly brewed cup of coffee and cake to make the first move.
That is 100% OK.
That is how your life slowly turns around & those moments of random energy sucking dread become less and less.
If you find that this still doesn't give you any peace it might be because you're overwhelmed with everything you have got to do.
When we have a million things on our to-do list, thousands of responsibilities and hundreds of people vying for our attention our brains go into shutdown mode.
Don't be mad at it, it's simply doing what it can to protect you.
